Frenchs Forest Terraced Steps & Turf

Treated pine sleeper terraces, premium synthetic grass, travertine pathway steppers, and rich woodland mulch.

A sloping block usually means one unusable strip of grass and a lot of mowing on an angle. This Frenchs Forest project, built in our own suburb, shows how terracing and surface choice can turn a slope into a sequence of usable, level garden rooms.

Treated pine sleepers were used to terrace the block, stepping the garden down the slope and carving out level ground where there was previously none. The main terrace carries a premium synthetic lawn, a surface that stays green and mud free through the year and needs no mowing on what was previously an awkward gradient. Travertine steppers thread a pathway through the garden, linking the levels with a durable, light toned stone that reads clearly against the planting. Woodland mulch finishes the beds, holding moisture and giving the garden a settled, natural floor between the built elements.

Materials & Finishes Used

  • Treated pine sleeper terraces
  • Premium synthetic grass
  • Travertine pathway steppers
  • Woodland mulch

The terracing converts the slope into defined, usable levels connected by stone steppers, with the synthetic lawn giving the family a consistent green surface and the mulched beds framing the whole garden.
